Common questions

Open a question to see the answer.

My child has never skated. Where should we start?

CanSkate is the normal starting point. It has no skating prerequisite and groups participants by ability once they are on the ice.

Do you rent skates or helmets?

No. Skaters must arrive with properly fitted skates and any required helmet. CanSkate beginners must use a CSA-approved hockey helmet until the applicable skill requirement is met.

Do parents need to stay at the arena?

Yes. A parent, guardian or designated adult must remain at the arena for children’s sessions. The club does not provide child supervision.

How do we register?

Only CanSkate accepts direct public registration through Uplifter. Every other Connaught program is by invitation only. Once invited, current members can use the Member Registration link at the top of every page.

How does my skater move beyond CanSkate?

Junior Academy and STARSkate Development require an invitation or assessment. Speak with the CanSkate coordinator if your skater is ready for a figure-skating pathway.

Are private coaching fees included?

Competitive ice fees do not include individual private lessons. Private coaching must be arranged with the coach and is billed separately.

Can we make up a missed class?

No. A missed registered session cannot be exchanged for a different session. Competitive skaters may use the separate buy-on process when space and coach approval allow.

Which arena should we go to?

Connaught uses Minoru Arenas, Richmond Ice Centre and the Richmond Olympic Oval. Your registration receipt and schedule identify the location for your session.
