Coaching experience and background
Jacob Cryderman began skating at the age of two in Huntsville, Ontario. At 16, he relocated to Barrie, Ontario, to pursue his skating career and represented Ontario at the National Championships in Juvenile, Pre-Novice and Junior Men.
Jacob began coaching at 19 while continuing to train. In 2012, he retired from competitive skating and began developing his coaching career at Doug Leigh’s Mariposa School of Skating, Barrie Skating Club and Oakville Skating Club, under the direction and mentorship of Michelle Leigh.
Jacob has taught skaters from around the world, across all ages and levels, from CanSkate through Senior competition. As a Sectional-level Skate Canada Technical Specialist, he has developed a detailed understanding of skating elements and brings that knowledge to his daily coaching practice.
Coaching is Jacob’s passion. As both a competitor and coach, he brings enthusiasm and dedication to the rink each day. His coaching philosophy is centred on developing well-balanced skaters and supporting students as they work toward becoming their best selves, both on and off the ice. He encourages athletes to value their physical, mental and emotional well-being.
